Choirs for all ages!
Our musical groups meet on Wednesdays and Thursdays, offering variety for musicians of all ages, with singing, ringing, drumming and strumming. Worship is essential and central to the Christian community. Through our choirs we strive to teach our children and youth how to be good stewards of their time and talents and how to be active participants in worship.
There is no audition necessary to be a member of any of our groups. If you have a talent to share, please come join us!
Junior Jam: Grades 1-5 (part of the WNL! program)
Rehearsal: Wednesdays 6:30-7:00 pm during the school year
Location: Sanctuary
Lead in Worship: Approximately every 6 weeks and on Celebration Sunday
In Junior Jam young people learn about worship and prepare to lead in the Sunday morning service of worship. We will be exploring new ways to share our talents in addition to singing by using instruments and movement. Join leaders Lois Reese and Patti Grayson as we journey together. Our season culminates with a musical on June 1st, telling a great Bible story through music and drama.
Youth Jam: Grades 6-12
Rehearsal: Wednesdays 5:30-6:00 pm during the school year
Location: Choir Room
Lead in Worship: Approximately every 6 weeks and on Youth Sunday
Teamwork is what it is all about here. We learn to sing music in three and four parts and play drum ensembles with as many as 7 parts at a time. It takes great discipline and focus to make all of this happen. We meet just before WNL begins; so come to the choir room and join leaders Lois Reese, Debby Heatwole and Riki Murphy and be a part of the team.
All WNL participants in grades 6-12 will be given the opportunity to be good stewards of their time and talents by being leaders in worship through song, movement, reading, drama, instruments or whatever creative ideas they come up with.
Adult Choir:
Rehearsal: Wednesdays 7:30-9:00 pm except August break
Location: Choir Room
Lead in Worship: Sundays and annual Christmas and spring cantatas
The adult choir is responsible for leading our congregational song as well as singing responses and anthems. We sing everything from Bach to Bernstein and Mendelssohn to Ray and we also have a lot of laughs along the way. We do two major musical works a year, one at Christmas and one in the spring.
Thursday rehearsals
Handbell Choir: Grade 5 through Adults
Rehearsal: Thursdays 6:30-7:30 pm during the school year
Location: Sanctuary
Lead in Worship: Approximately every 6 weeks
This is an intergenerational group for youth and adults. A basic knowledge of reading music notation is helpful to join the group. This choir adds to the worship experience through playing anthems, accompanying other choirs and hymns and doing processionals. We look forward to the possibility this year of joining 50 other choirs at the Hampton Convention Center for the AGEHR Area III Handbell Festival.
The Ensemble: High School and Adults
Rehearsal: Thursdays 7:30-8:30 pm alternate weeks
Location: Sanctuary
Lead in Worship: Sundays
These are the leaders of our contemporary music. We have 4-5 singers and a group of instrumentalists including congas, guitars, and bass. We are always eager to welcome new members!
Sunday rehearsal
Chime Choir NEW!
Rehearsal: Sundays 11:30 - Noon after worship
Location: Sanctuary
Lead in Worship: Approximately every 6 weeks
This group is the place to learn about music reading and ringing. No prior knowledge or experience is necessary. All that is needed is the daring to try something new and the willingness to have a little fun along the way.
