Habitat for Humanity |
Community Missions
Our local area offers several opportunities for mission service. Our Mission ministry coordinates our participation with these and other charitable organizations:
PORT Homeless Shelter -- Volunteers contribute in many ways, including donations of time and clothing for all seasons.
Salvation Army Soup Van -- One day a month, HPC volunteers make soup and/or sandwiches that are picked up by a Salvation Army van. The food is delivered to the homeless in downtown Newport News.
Habitat for Humanity -- The Habitat website says, "Churches are essential in grounding the work of Habitat in the gospel message and uplifting the ministry of Habitat in prayer." …And guess what? We volunteer for the physical labor, too! It's a true community-"building" experience.
Other ways we witness:
Participating in Christopher Newport University Campus Ministry
Volunteering in the St. Vincent's Soup Kitchen
Volunteering in the Zuni Kuyayes (Presbyterian Home and Family Services)
Being a reading tutor at Hilton Elementary School
Supporting Newport News LINK
Volunteering in the St. Paul's Friday Dinners
