The Rev. Clark DeSarro-Raynal hails from a long line of Presbyterian ministers. His mother was an artist and piano teacher. When Clark was 12, they moved to a church in rural Rockbridge County, Virginia, where his father served until his retirement in 1989. In 1982, Clark entered the Bachelor of Music program at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, his native state. He did well in his studies, but upon graduation, Clark still wasn’t sure what he wanted to do with his life.
Eventually, though, he was called back to his love for music. He taught piano lessons, accompanied school music groups and took on a job playing the organ. There, he unexpectedly found himself more and more invested in the life and mission of this church. A turning point was when he served on the pastor’s search committee. He read the gospels, really for the first time, and was floored by the grace and power of God's Word in Jesus Christ. God had claimed him and his life had now a new direction to see.
Clark is a graduate of Union Presbyterian Seminary, which is where he met his wife, Donna. In 2011, Clark and his family moved to Eastern Kentucky, where Donna served as assistant professor of Religion at the University of Pikeville, and he served as pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Prestonsburg. They have three children -- Josiah, Elijah, and India, now 11, 9, and 7. Clark begins his ministry with us in September and is looking forward to the goodness God has in store for his family here at Hilton. We are grateful to God for bringing Clark to us, and are excited to begin our journey with him. We hope you’ll join us!
